Fencing Supply Group Opens Merchants Metals Greenfield in Portland, OR

Andrea Hogan, CEO, and members of the Senior Leadership Team held a virtual celebration to announce the opening of FSG’s newest greenfield branch – Merchants Metals (MM) in Portland, OR. This branch will support one of the largest geographical areas covering all of Oregon, Northern California, and SW Washington.

The existing 6300 SF structure was built in 1989 and consists of office space attached to a shop. There are two additional outbuildings located on the 2.87-acre site.

Pat Davis, President – West Division, kicked off the video call by sharing some fun facts about Portland and his excitement about what he believes is the first MM Greenfield branch to open in 25 years. He introduced the four members of the Portland team he says, “made everything possible,” and it was noted that together they have more than 100 years of experience in the fencing industry.

Pat Davis thanked Mike Lavella, the first Portland employee, for being the “eyes and ears from end to end” and credited him with finding, setting up and now driving the success of this branch. He also acknowledged Greg Gifford, Regional Operations Manager, who joined FSG in May, for his tireless commitment.

Lavella said this opening could not have happened without support from the Merchants Metals team in Tacoma, WA. “I’m glad that we’re close enough that we can lean on each other to build the market.”

The meeting ended with a ceremonial bell ringing and rounds of applause from everyone on the call.  FSG will commemorate Grand Openings and Greenfields in this way moving forward so that “everyone is informed and excited about what we are doing in the business,” according to Pat Davis.   He expects FSG will open at least four sites over the course of next year.
